went out the other night for a quick bomb round for an hour after the mrs finished work....didn't actually set off to race, but noticed i was pulling a very good speed (wind was slightly behind but mostly off the sea to the side)....got to about 6 miles and saw the time at just over 13:30.....thought to myself, this is pretty good....might go for the 10 mile PB....

Anyway, got to 8.5 miles and had a 90 degree right hander to head home......WIND! IN MY FACE! - wasn't happy....From hitting just over 8 miles in 21 minutes, it then took me just short of 10 minutes to do the last 2 miles.....average over the last 2 miles of about 12.5 mph!

Decided to go back past my house up the sea front for a couple of miles, just to turn around and catch the wind going home.....1:03:23 for 20 miles.....not bad, but was gutted as i was aiming for a 25-26 min 10 miler...

Just thought i'd have a rant!

Know just what you mean about the wind had similar riding along north east sea front along Whitley bay area, average 12.5mph on way out and 22mph on way back over a 30 mile ride.
Who needs hills when we get this wind every day

  • My local TT is on a Tuesday evening and the mrs works late(ish) so i'd struggle to get down there as i'm holding the baby......has anyone ever done a TT dragging one of them baby carriers? Could start a trend :D

Was pissed off as my phone said the wind was going the other way, so i set off south to try and go into the wind on the way out!
  • its abit of a trek but someone from out club SouthportCC lives in blackpool and he comes down to Tarleton, preston.

there is one at 7pm down there if you could make it? if it does interest you i could give you the Postal code needed.

  • Is that the straight out and back TT?

supposed to be a very quick course? Or is that further north?
  • probs further up north lol, it's pretty fast though =] yea it's along a duel carriage way, and 3 roundabouts and 3 left turns, there in the run down to the finish though.

Obviously it's going to be different targets for different folks, but I'd start with 30 mins as it gives you a nice 20mph average.
  • Tailwinds don't exist

+1 amen to that! tried to explain to my mrs that even if i had a 20kmh tailwind and i was doing 30kmh it would turn into a 10kmh head wind!

To top the day off, it's pissing down and very windy. Can't wait for the ride home from work! co-ordinate my leaving with the bus so a can get a draft....

I'm going off to have a little cry now!

Those railway bridges can be b*tches can't they!!!!

Is your 10 mile loop built for speed? If there are lots of urban bits, traffic lights and right turns etc, then 35 mins suggests you could easily go under 30 mins on a course that was conceived with reducing delays in mind.

If you've got a fast route with minimal delays then sub 30 mins is a good starting target.

to be fair, i'd feel a little inadequate pulling up my Kharma next to your TT:
