Are Schwalbe Lugano > Spec Mondo's?

My Allez still has the 700x23c Mondos on it came with. They had only done 270 miles when I bought the bike and I've since put 500 miles on them. In that time, I've had 4 punctures which I think is too many. Each puncture has been a tiny fragment of glass which has buried itself into the slick tread and pushed it's way through. I do ride with care and avoid the obvious smashed glass that's visible.
Would Schwalbe Lugano tyres at a mere £10 each be a great improvement over the Mondo's in terms of puncture resistance? I loathe paying £30+ per tyres for a push bike when my high performance Toyo T1R car tyres can be had for £30 each.
My cycling is road commuting around Manchester and on close inspection, the Mondo's are completely cut up.

Who pays £30 for bike tyres? You can get Ultremos for less than £20. Your standard tyres are probably terrible. Duranos for about £22 each would be a huge improvement.Faster than a tent.......0

I don't know who pays that but looking at Wiggle seems that £30 a tyre is a drop in the ocean. Some are £45+!
I've now opted for the Vittoria Rubino tyres (red/black) as they quote a puncture protection belt and are great for all weather use with it's slick and treaded sides for cornering. I've had Vittoria Zaffiro tyres on my old commuter and they were good tyres for the price.
I was put off by the Schwalbe Lugano low Max pressure rating of only 105psi.Ribble Stealth/SRAM Force

I've done about 2,000 miles on a set of Luganos, still plenty of life in them and no visits from the puncture fairy so far (touching wood etc.). They're not a lighweight tyre but I've used them on a few TTs and a road race. I'm sure there's better tyres out there but for £10 each I'd say they are good value (I paid more than that). Can't comment on them against your existing tyres as I have never used them.0

I've got Rubinos on my other bike but only ridden about 50 miles on them so far.
EDIT Why would you want to run your tyres any higher than 105psi? That is more than enough.0 -

I think most people probably don't go much above about £25 which is all you need to pay for the likes of current Ultremos and Duranos. (Check out High on Bikes for cheap tyres and excellent service)
I think I looked at Luganos when looking for replacements for the crap tyres that came with my Ribble. I like Schwalbe but cover a lot of commuting miles so didn't want to keep replacing expensive tyres all the time. I think the conclusion I came to was that Duranos probably last more than twice as long as Luganos but weigh less. I think the hints are out there but for £10 and Schwalbe you probably can't go wrong!
Plus one on the 105psi being enough!Faster than a tent.......0 -
I've got Durano Race guard on my bike and they seem every bit as good as the Michellen Pro 3's I had on the other one0

I have used Vittoria Rubino Pro's for 2800 miles and have had zero visits...I do ride carefully though.
I put the Spesh Mondo's off the Allez onto my commuter used daily since last autumn and only two visits - over pretty bad roads too and right over winter.
Luck I guess

I've got Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps on my road bike. Ribble currently have them for £20.76 per tyre, though some of the more popular colours have already sold out.
They're slightly heavier than some more race-specific tyres but, to be honest, if you can feel and extra 40-60g from different tyres you've got to be bloody sensitive!
I stopped cycling for about two years, having done about 1200 miles on my Tricomps. I returned to the sport in April and have since put a further 1400 on the tyres with just one puncture.0
