Mountain Bike / Cyclo Cross Challenge
8th October
Crompton Moor, Saddleworth, Oldham
Brand new event open to mountain bikers and cyclo cross riders. The event will be run as a Cyclosportive. We have come up with an exciting and challenging 15 mile course over the Saddleworth Moors. There are two options one lap of 15 miles or two laps 30 miles.
The start is at Crompton Moor, Shaw the riders then head off up the hill and over to Denshaw, then take a left past the Llama treking farm over to Castleshaw along the valley towards Delph. The route takes an uphill turn upto Harrop Edge and along the old Roman Road. Then it's back down the valley to Castleshaw past the old Roman Camp you can see where we got the name of the event from between the two reservoirs and then up over Castleshaw Moor. We follow the National Bridle path over the tops towards Dowy and Readycon Dean Reservoirs before descending down the valley to Ogden. The route then climbs up towards the Moorcock, then it's a fast descent back to the finish at Crompton Moor. The fitter riders can do two laps.
The event will be timed each competitor will be given a number with a barcode which will be swipped at the start and finish.
We will have a feeding station half way round. There will also be support vehicles out on the route.
You can use any bike Mountain, Cyclo Cross or Hybrid. The course has been designed not to favour any paticular type of bike. There are fast sections to suit cross bikes and technical sections more suited to MTB bikes and some steep down hill sections to appeal to Downhill riders.
