Fixed wheel axel too big for nut

Hi

I have a flip flop hub wheel that I have been using for a while. I want to change the nuts to red (standard 10mm track nuts), but the axel is very slightly too big.

I can get it turning on the axel if I really give it some force, but its too tight to get the bolt flush to the dropout.

I have tried various nuts and all of them are just too small.

Is there a way to get the bolt to fit, or will I have to get a new wheel if I want red nuts?

Thanks

Most rear axles are 10mm across the industry, it seems in this case yours has a slight variation in the thread pitch. Have you tried the nuts on different axles? You might need to buy a new M10 axle for your red nuts.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I have just realised both nuts I have tried are the DMR colour nutz. Some sites state that these are for DMR hubs only.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

The halo ones look pretty cool, but very similar to the DMR nutz. Does anyone know if they are the same width?

    Thanks
  • Not all hubs use the same thread on their axles as the 'standard' 10mm thread.

I have a few pairs of wheels with different make hubs and I don't think any of the nuts are interchangeable
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.
