Alternative to Shimano HG chain

Apologies if this all sounds a bit daft - I'm a proper beginner when it comes to bike DIY.

I need to replace the HG chain on my Scott Sportster. It's a 9-speed Deore LX system. Thing is, I'd like to replace it with something like a Wipperman, as the Connex system looks handy. They claim their 9-series chains are compatible with all 9-speed systems, but is that true? Or do I need to be looking for a slimmer chain?

Cheers!

any 9spd chain will work fine.

Good value from SRAM and easier to fit than the Shimano chains. Useful tip is to measure the length of the old chain against the new one and split accordingly. You may well need a chain splitter tool to get the old chain off the bike.
