Searching Twitter

I would like to search twitter and keep up with what's going on, but every time I use the Twitter search facility it says that it is 'too busy'. Is there a better way of doing it via the web?

    It's probably not worth it anyway, I was trying to keep up with the Birmingham one last night and 99% of what was on there was rumor and sensationalism. Best off watching the news.
