He really is. God knows why any journalist with an ounce of sense would ask him for his views, other than an desperate need to fill time. He needs to be kept off the airwaves for his own sake as well as everyone else's.

I just updated my Facebook status. It covers Howe on his riot comments, I'm so angry by them. He's so bloody predictable.

No, an insurrection against local businesses and local residents by rioting criminals. What type of insurrection starts by carting off plasma TV's?

A world class jerk who should be carted off himself to some well deserved obscurity not given inflammatory airtime.

I know when I feel dis-enfranchised and frustrated with the world NOTHING makes me feel better than 5 widesceen televisions, a couple of mobile phones and some Armani underwear!!

Oh and if I can destroy someone's livelihood whilst endangering their life.. Well, that just completes my day!

The problem with Darcus Howe, in a perverse twist, is that his vision is totally fogged by race and creed. It always has been and always will be. And it's inexcusable.

He's a very dignified man Darcus Howe and has done a lot of work supporting both the black and white working class, so having not heard the R5 comments i wont make judgement and all i've got to go on are the comments of forumites, but what ever he's said he's saying it at a distance. The people who's opinions should be sought are the parents of those out on the streets.

I'd ask them 'If your child comes home with a handful of looted goods what has your reaction been, what message does you and your communities action say about your community and its fabled spirit to the outside world.'

In fairness, he did come across with dignity and is very obviously articulate and intelligent.

Unfortunately he's also stark raving bonkers.
