Evening all

Bought a used Fox Float R off eBay. It has a very small ding on the stancion, towards the end (prob about 5mm from the base)

Is this a massive issue ? i havent used it in anger yet (needs servicing first)

There is a possibility of air loss every time the seal moves over that area, with the possibility of rubbing the seal so eventually the seal will no longer hold air.

I would send it back and ask for a refund, or buy another new piston and get it fitted, probably cost more than you paid for the shock.

There are not meant to be any marks or scratches on the piston.

    nice and detail pictures.

see the info in the FAQs about sorting scratches out on fork legs as this is going to be up to you.

But any raised areas will cause damage to seals and bushes, and any low area may allow air out.

I wouldn't bother as long as its not rough - that is if you like the value of the shock - I had a similar size scratch on an RP2 and I can't say I ever noticed. As long as the scratch isn't vertically longer than the seal (about 3mm IIRC) then nothing should leak badly as the seal is always 'sealed' on at least some of its depth.

there is a very slight raised section. I can only just feel it.

size wise, its 1mm at the most
