The Delapre Abbey round of the FNSS is on this Friday, and seeing as it's just across the road form work I thought I might go along and ride on the day.

I have no racing experience, or even riding in groups. I don't expect I'll be competitive, not least because I'll have the morning commute to ride before hand and will prob need to keep a bit back for the ride home afterwards.

So, beyond lining up at the back of the grid, keeping an ear out for faster riders and generally trying not to get in the way, anything else I should look out for?

    Probably not,

Make sure you've got enough water and food and just enjoy it....

  • Ah yes food, I should probably pack some flapjacks or something as it'll be a long ride home after the race.

The main thing is just to get out there and do it. Don't forget to post afterwards to let us know how you got on.

How long is the ride home after the race? IMO you don't really want to be 'saving something' for the ride home, defeats the purpose! Rag round as fast as you can, you won't want to eat during the race.
  • 13 miles back home from Delapre. I hear what you're saying though, not really racing if I'm not giving it death all the way.

As it transpires it may well be off the cards anyway, I need to finish my sons bedroom this week and thanks to the threat of rioting pikey scum, all the shops I need to get to were shut last night, so that project has now been pushed back into the time I would have spent preparing my bike for Friday.

If you're in Northants you're not really that far from the final round next Friday if you have transport that is. Just off the A1, or about 6 miles from Oakham if you're coming from Corby way.

Maybe worth a show up even if you don't ride this year, gives you a taste of what it's all about.

Alas, no transport unless i borrow the wifes car. I didn't make it to the Delepre round either, time just ran out in the end.

I think i may have to resign myself to putting in the training ready for next year and prebook the fridays off from family duties.
