Looking for my first road bike and have had a good look at the above over the weekend
Both seem good for the money and look fantastic
Any views on which is best??
Thanks all

They both look pretty similarly specced.
I've had an Allez Sport for a couple of years now and it's a great bike, quite nippy and fun to ride.
I think most people who get one tend to upgrade the wheels pretty quickly. Check out the Your Road Bikes forum, there's a few examples in there.
I haven't ridden the Trek so I can't give an opinion on it. Hope this helps a bit.0 -
I prefer specialised as preferred the spec but since realised it's better to go for better fitting bike. Test ride them both. Quality wise there's barely a difference, both get excellent reviews so if you can't decide after ride do what others say & pick a fav colour!
If it's not too late though I've heard amazing reviews from canondale caad. Amazing ride & very light for alu bike. Wish I heard about it when I was choosing!0 -

I have the Trek 1.2, I have had it for nearly two years. i have up graded the shifters and the wheels. i was not happy with the sora shifters what i thought was a good idea with the thumb button turned out to be a right pain in the joint. The wheels where ok but apear cheap and i ended up bracking a lot of spokes. In fairness the wheels would have been the first thing i would have upgraded any way, but to do it with inside of a year and also to have to changed my shifters inside the first 6 months i just wish i could have afford to go up a price bracket then as i have since spent that money on up grades.
I hope that was of some help.Trek 1.2

ahhhh I knew there was a post by someone else on this!
I've got exactly the same dilemma at the moment, but also now starting to think about the Boardman Road Race too.
Which did you go for?
I was leaning towards the Trek till I read Howie's comments above....0 -
I wonder if the problems you note howie have been sorted on the 2011 model....?0
-
Bought a Trek 1.2 2011 model in Feb this year & have so far had no problems with it. Have ridden it through pretty much all weathers & it has survived well. Also as yet I haven't felt the need to change anything on it as the time spent actually riding the bike has seen fitness/performances imrpovements anyway. Say that I am looking at buying new parts (wheels, tyres etc) but that's in preparation for next year
Ultimately it's a personal choice based on fit & what you like regardless of what people say & how many reviews you look at- a biek could be review as the best bike in the world, but if it don't fit you it will be the worst bike in the world0 -
I had same choice to make and went for the Allez. really nice ride after MTB and good value. No problems after three months or so.0

Looking forward to testing both tmrw. Very good point though Andyjr, perhaps I should just go with the one I'm happiest with as they're going to be pretty similar.
Think I'm still going to test the Boardman too to make sure I've covered all bases though! Something about them just doesnt sit quite right with me....that could all change once I get on one I guess.0 -
I have been looking at the allez too. Problem i have is I am 5'9 and none of the shops in my area (of which there are few) have a 54 and 56cm in stock to let me try both. According to Specializeds size guide i sort of come at the upper and lower limits of the sizes respectively.
What size are you trying and how tall are you?0 -
Get to a big bike shop, and try as many as you can IMO, then compare expensive components IE Wheels, Shifters, if they're the same, go for the prettiest. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

I'm 6ft, tried a 56 in both last night. Was hoping that one would jump out and make my decision easy for me, but sadly not!
It was hard to tell as I've had experience riding a 1.2 (although the 09 version) whilst the allez felt, obviously, a bit different.
I have to say, I think I'm slightly leaning towards the Allez. And i was hoping would prefer the trek too.
Plus, out of 3 bike shop staff I did a straw poll of yesterday, 2 said they'd have the allez vs 1 for the 1.2!
I would try a boardman road race too, although my company doesnt support the halfords b2w scheme I dont think so there's not really much point.0 -
how did the 56 feel?
I am 5'9" so come right at the end of the 54 and right at the beginning of the 56 lol
Just trying to get some idea, as none of the shops around me have them in both sizes to try.0 -
I've got a 2011 Allez Sport - I'm 5' 10' and ride a 54. I tried a 56 before buying but the top tube felt too long. The 54 feels good.
I also tried the Trek 1.2 beforehand as well. It's a bit more up-right geometry, not a lot but you notice it a bit. The Allez feels a bit stiffer, some components are better, and it also looks better IMO0 -
Thsts handy to know. I am not the most flexible person so a 54 soynds good. Will do my best to try one.
I love the look of the allez, now just need to decide if i can stretch to the elite, for tiagra shifters. Though i prefer the white of the sport.0 -
Personally I would try stretch for the Tiagra shifters, but Sora may be fine for people with bigger hands (I ride a 50cm)And now you know, and knowing is half the battle

I'd go for the Allez (in white obviously) - but then again I am biased.
