Hi everyone.

I am looking for a decent Bike Service in West London (preferably around Ealing).

I'd be obligated if you could recommend me a trusted, quality workshop. Preferably someone specialized in mountain bikes. After moving down to Ldn and disassembling my bike for transport I'd need couple things to have done.

Some things to be done:
- general check after disassembling and assembling the bike
- shimano hydraulic brakes check and adjustment
- headset check and service
- suspension check and service

Cheers!

Basically, Evans in Chiswick. Or I suppose CycleSurgery in Shepherd's Bush. That bike shop in Ealing itself doesn't understand anything that isn't a commuter bike, don't bother there.

There is an independent in Chiswick too, not sure how they are for MTB.

It all sounds kinda like stuff you might also consider learning yourself?

Anyway, nice to know of other Ealing MTB-ers.

theres a bike service/repair mechanic opposite the entrance to Acton Central rail (overground) station. Duno what its like but its advertised and signed as that...not a shop.
So thats real close to you

also as previously mentioned, Evans in Chiswick (keep on PASSED the Hafords nearby).

Personally got a terribly bad and over priced service from Cycle Surgery in Shepherds Bush so I would not recommend them.
  • Wow! Thank you all for your help. These are really precious hints. I moved here not a very long time ago and to be honest had no idea where to look for some advice:)

milko900 - Yes I could consider learning this myself, but you know how it is:) Work, baby and no time for things like this:) Actually I used to do things like this by myself, but it was ages ago, when I was teenager and V-brakes was something relatively new;)

Also, nowadays I wouldn't say about myself a MTB-er any more:) Rather very casual biker, aspiring to become weekend warrior at most:)

    Cheers!

A bit further away, but I recommend these guys, carry loads of spares, friendly and a vast knowledge.

Simple enough to do the basic checks yourself and go around tightening up & adjusting. It's all an LBS will do for their standard service other than they might replace brake pads and at a push bleed brakes (for an extra charge I bet).

Proper service of the suspension, as in a full strip down, replace seals, oils, etc, is usually more costly. Some places may even take your bike and not return it for a week or more to do it!

Headset service is simple if you're not intending to replace the headset, only clean and re-grease.

Re-indexing gears is one bit that's hassle though where a good LBS may worth using if you can't be bothered spending ages trying to do it yourself. I've managed to learn how to do it roughly right though.

I'd do the basic checks myself and if things appear to need attention, only then approach the LBS if I wasn't up to doing it myself. Plenty of books on bike maintenance, likewise videos online, including on this site.

I think there are some numbers from WLondon mtb-ing together. You always could join them on organised rides and surprisingly be helped with that basic maintenance on the spot.

Check in *MTB Rides* -London Calling- thread and see yourself.
    What could have been (Video)

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

So I called the guy (WisePranker thanks for help) and as Ealing is not quite his area of interest he recommended me http://cycledelic.com This is also mobile bicycle mechanic. Cool professional guy. I'd recommend to anyone. Pricing OK too baring in mind that I saved loads of time:) Once again thank you all for your help:)
  • thanks for the tip! (although, are you sure you're in West London, not France?)

The Evans in Chiswick normally has a long wait for the workshop. Depending on where you are in Ealing, the Brentford Evans might be a better shout. There's also ActionBikes in Chiswick.

A little bit further away but a proper specialist LBS is Bicyle. in Richmond.

    http://bicyclerichmond.co.uk/

Excellent customer service and (unusually for LBSs in the area) deal with MTB as well as road bikes. Had mine done recently got a fully detailed service log and spent a good 20 mins in there when collecting chatting with the guys in the shop and getting some good advice.

Evans can be ok - but very shop dependent and the staff quality(which is what imho makes or breaks an LBS) varies from outstanding to totally disinterested.
