XT Outer Chainring On Deore Cranks

Pretty sure it will but I thought I would ask first just to be on the safe side. Will an XT M770 outer chainring fit ok on a set of Deore M532 cranks? BCD is the same, shifting pins in the same place and the ring looks the same shape to fit the cranks, although Shimanos site states for the XT M770 "Thicker and stiffer 44T ring " whether that makes a difference or not. I ask as every so often I have seen XT outer chainrings on ebay, brand new and unused going for cheaper than what it would cost to buy a Deore outer ring. If so when it is time for my brother to replace the outer I will have a butchers on ebay first.

yes, but you may need to apply a file.

  • Nice one cheers.

If I have to apply a file, where abouts we talking?

The shoulders. BUT a M770 Outer ring IIRC is around £50 alone new - those cranks are barely more for the lot.
  • The shoulders, that's not a problem then. Cheers.
