Maybe stupid question...

I was wondering whether SRAM/FSA chainsets where compatible with a shimano groupset, so if I just swapped out my tiagra chainset and put a SRAM one on without changing anything else, would it work?

I have a slightly toes out position and my heal rubs my tagra crank, I've heard SRAM/FSA have lower profiles, not to mention being lighter and stiffer(?) and looking better imo.

Thanks.

they're compatible, it'll depend on the model whether or not you get more heel clearance

105 cranks might also a bit sleeker than tiagra

if you are ridng heel in, are your knees tracking up-down through the pedal stroke? or are they also moving in-out?

if it's the latter, then it might be worth getting assessed to see if this is natural/correct for you, or if it's something to be adjusted (footbeds, wedges, shims etc.), as this might move your heels out

    Thanks.

My knees do track up and down (I think) I'm just naturally a bit toes out when I walk, so I've set my cleats to be slightly toes out, it's not a massive angle, and I only rub a few times, it's not constant.

if it's just slight, and assuming there's no stance adjustment room left on the cleats, another option would be longer pedal axles, or even an extra washer on the existing pedals

or if you don't find it uncomfortable, you could use pedals that allow you to adjust stance and float, and set things up to keep your heels just a smidge away from rubbing (speedplay zero for instance)
