Forest of Dean (new ride at FODCA) 14th August- 10:00
What and Where:
Starting from Pedalabikeaway bike hire centre in Cannop, the day will take in a few laps of the various trails availbe. the trails listed below are ideal for all abilities, from newer riders lacking confidence, to riders looking to incease their ability and beat their personal lap times. new / begineer riders will stop occasionally to session (try again) short sections to help improve their riding and confidence on more technical sections.
Free Miner Trail (formerly the FODCA)
Graded RED on the CTC classification of cycle trails. Designed, built and maintained by volunteers in partnership with the Forestry Commission, this challenging and varied single track can offer something to even the most demanding of riders, from tricky switchback climbs to rooty drops and hairpin bends. A small 3 km loop in the heart of the Forest of Dean, this loop has a mix of everything, from optional drop off's to haigh speed descending. This is among the top for beginer riding, and is a perfect first venture into MTB riding away from the loac trails. A Must for every rider.
Verderer's Trail
Widely aclaimed as the best new trail in Britain, the Verderer's incorporates fast, flowing flat out corners, big berms and rollovers. Graded BLUE, but with some tricky challenges, the trail gently winds uphill before a swooping, flat top section and a brilliant descent on the Dragon's Tail that will have you hooting and hollering all the way back to the cycle centre. Smiles guaranteed - or your money back! Check out the Dragons Tail video below. Understand trail grading here. Our last visit to the Forest of Dean before this trail was official opened, this trail was hands down the best of the area, and tought the whole group (mixed ability) something by the time we finished it.
Ridden regularly by forum members throughout the year, and a great beginer venue, this location is both a real eye opener into the sport of mountain biking and gives newer riders the chance to build up both stamina and technical skills in a safer and more relaxed athmosphere.
