Its probably been posted before, but I trawled through the Workshop listing until I got very bored and did not come accross it.

This is a follow up to buying Dura Ace wheels and running Campag transmission.
It was suggested that I purchase an Evolution or Ambrosio Cassette with Shimano splines for Campag. Had a look and it seems a real pity to downgrade from a Record cassette to a relatively low end spec cassette. So I thought, is there any difference in the spacing of a Shimano 10 speed cassette and a Campag ? Anyone tried it before?

Put better - if you put a 10sp Shimano cassette on a Shimano freehub, would the 10sp campag rear mech work with it? i.e my running gear is all campag at the moment
seanoconn - gruagach craic!

    Not what I meant.

The sprocket spacing is different, so no. There are some mix-and-match combinations described at tx14's link, but most end up using a subset of the gears that would be available in a uniform setup.

No. Spacing is different enough to make them non-compatable.

Put 'ShimErgo' into Internet to open up a can of worms.
  • There's an easy solution to the dilema of runiing a Campag drivetrain with a Shimano cassette.
    It's called a J-Tek shiftmate.

If you want to use a Shimano 9/10 speed cassette you'll need to use a Shimano rear mech as well, but the Shimano cassette/rear mech combo will work with 9/10 speed Campag shifters.
At the moment I'm using 9 speed Campag Chorus shifters, 10 speed Record Chainset, 9 speed Shimano Tiagra Rear mech, 9 speed Shimano cassette.
Everything works fine and the gear changes are crisp and precise.

Hope this helps sort out your Campag/Shimano compatability issues

Yes it would,,,,,,, if you used a Shimano 9 speed cassette. The spacing for Shimano
9 speed and Campag 10 speed in almost identical. That's the combo I use for my
3 bikes ,Campag 10s levers, Campag f/r mechs, Shimano (compatible) hub with a
Shimano 9s cassette. Works fine, honest.
