Setting up Glasgow Green Cycle Club with the support and sponsorship of Billy Bilsland Cycles.

The club is for all and will be road and MTB so if you want more info email -

info@glasgowgreencycleclub.co.uk

The registration process is with Scottish Cycling and I am just finalising kit design so early days. Excited about setting up the club which will be organised and structures and open to all who enjoy 2 wheels.

Will be based around Glasgow Green and we will be riding all over Scotland and competing in any event that the members want.

Look forward to hearing from you

Cheers

There is no web site yet as its being developed.

The club is aimed at everyone from leisure riders to elite racers and there will be groups and rides to suit. It will be mtb abd road and whtever discipline you want.

We plan to meet twice a week......probably wed nights and sunday am and ride. The ride will be driven by the members but we will have different ability groups so everyone can get involved.

I am collecting potential interested names at mo and then once Scot Cycling confirm club set up I will get details out and get teh m,emberships sorted.

Its sponsored by Billy Bilsland Cycles and via Neil at teh shop the kit is being sorted.

    Hope this helps

The devil's in the detail, but pencil me in - sounds interesting.

I could lead a tour of Greggs in the city centre if that helps.

As a matter of interest, how will you be different from:

    Glasgow Wheelers
    Glasgow Nightingale
    Glasgow United
    Glasgow Couriers
    Glasgow Ivy
    Glenmarnock Wheelers
    VC Glasgow

    Apologies if I've missed any....

If the start point is GG, they'll be a damn sight closer for me for one.

And leisure cycling. Leisure means not fast and stops for good food, right?

    And MTBs.

For a start I will answer any emails that are sent to me and any request to join the club!? It wont be elitist and will welcome any level of rider and there will be different ability ride outs so the slower members dont get shot off the back and left to fend for themselves. People will get taught how to ride in a bunch so them become confident and competent.
We will be taking part in road AND mountain biking and competing in everything from sportives to 24 hour MTB endurance races......if you want to......if you dont then just join to enjoy cycling with a group of friendly guys n girls.

ok, that's all very commendable. But for the sake of playing 'devil's advocate'.......I would imagine that all those other Glasgow clubs would probably say exactly the same thing...???

The better clubs will prosper and those that don't offer what people want will die off - nothing wrong in that. You shouldn't have to offer something different to existing clubs to justify starting a new one - truth is if the existing clubs are already doing everything right and the geographic coverage is right new ones will find it very hard to find members.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

Are you not limiting yourself to potential new members by calling yourselves Glasgow Green Cycle Club, there are plenty Weegies that would only join if you called it Glasgow Orange.

Any mention of fruit or healthy eating would put too many off!

Alternatively, how about Glasgow Bananas? Club motto: The future's bright, the future's banana fritters. As long as it's deep fried, it should be fine.
