Sod the rules. After forgetting to put stuff (tube, tyre levers, puncture outfit etc) in my pockets once too often, and having abandoned the dummy bottle full of stuff for looking too much like a numpty riding down the road loaded with fluids for a 5 mile pootle and not having space for two bottles on rides that require two bottles, I went for the little saddlebag under the seat. http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bontrager/seat-pack-pro-ec017761. One of those, but not from Evans. It's the biz; always there, weighs nothing, out of sight from where I'm sitting, big enough for the necessaries.

The mini-pump fits to a clamp under the down tube bottle holder. I don't like it but it's there and I've never used it. The day I take it off is the day it becomes an urgent necessity.
  • I wrap a tube, c02 cannister/head & 2 x tyre levers in some electrical tape and tape it to my seat post. Never forget it and never touch it unless you need it.
