Peak District Holiday - Mountain Biking

Anyone got somewhere in the peak district they can recommend?
Looking to go on holiday there. It'd be nice to do a little bit of riding for a couple of days at least. The Mrs will be in tow, so some gentle riding for her would be good too.
Websites seem to say that the villages of Hope or Edale are decent, but I can't find anything additional apart from that.
All advice welcomed!

Edale gets steep, so prob not best for gentle riding.
I'd head for a jaunt around Ladybower resevoir as it's flat all the way round it.
There's a bike hire shop at the Fairholmes visitor centre too.About 50/50 MTB/Road love;
GT Timberline (2000)
Lapierre Zesty 214 (2010)
Cube Attempt (2010)
Harry Hall single speed conversion (197/8?)0 -
Cutgate is well worth a look, start at Langsett Barn and head out towards Ladybower. We usually do it as out and back, either to the VC at Ladybower for tea and cake or stop when you cross the stream at Slippery Stones and head straight back up after a wee bite.
Doing it this way round you get a long fast descent down Mickledon edge which aint that steep and maybe your missus would like it?0 -
Thanks very much guys. I will let her know.0

edale and hope are probably your best bases. check out a few loops round ladybower / winn hill area, well worth it. some of my all time favorite blasts, with plenty of bail points if tired and a tea shop half way round (how civilized)0

Last weekend me and the husband spent an incredible couple of days staying at http://www.lilybankfarmcottage.co.uk/
Emmy who runs the b&b is a mountain bike instructor as well as avid mountain biker, and has a superb knowledge of all the local trails - she's got detailed route maps for all different sorts of rides right from the door, from gentle little pootles to epic 8 hour plus technical singletrack. There's also loads of walking routes too if you and the Mrs fancy that instead.
Can't recommend them enough - the riding is great and the food and hospitality are fabulous.0 -
http://www.upperboothcamping.co.uk/ i often stay hear and realy like it but i can be a bit basic but some the best riding i have ever do has been from there as a base"we're a forum of pointless upgraders, depreciation maximisers, and diminishing returns addicts"0

We've sorted out somewhere to stay in Holmfirth, but I'll keep both these places in mind for the next one.
Sounds like Upper Booth is good for a weekend away with the boys and the bikes0
