I haven the 500 on my bike and I am just about to buy a new bike.

If I buy another cadence/speed unit will my Garmin be able to read both units on my two bikes?

Thanks.

  • Yes. I use a 800 on three bikes, two of which have cadence sensors. Works fine. Just remember to switch between bike profiles under 'settings' before you ride.

Or you could just put the unit on the different bikes without changing the bike setting. If it is like my Bryton unit, the only apparent benefit of changing is recorded miles being split between the bikes but I deal with that separately.

    ^ what they said.

works fine - although in my experience it does not appear to enable you to analyse data by bike when you upload to the garmin connect.

I've used my 705 between 4 bikes, 2 with cadence sensors. The only thing I have found is when switching between the bikes with cadence sensors I have to tell it to rescan for a cadence sensor so it picks up the "new" one. It doesn't seem to be able to have them both paired, and it just read from which ever one is present.

I don't have the profiles set up, and don't bother with that feature at all. It does mean I can't tell for sure which bike I was on when I look on Garmin Connect, but I can live with that (if I was bothered then I could tag them I guess).

I have a 500 which is swapped between 2 bikes
Sometimes it knows the cadence sensor is present - sometimes I need to rescan, which takes seconds

I really should work out how to program the Bike1 and Bike2 thing but cant be arsed
Instead I put a tag on the data when I upload it

I use it as Scott Garett says. Three bikes, two with cadence. Change the bike in the settings when you put the Garmin on, otherwise it (normally) won't pick up the cadence sensor, as it will be "looking" for the one on the "other" bike which is inactive/out of range.

I do wish that there was either a shortcut to the "Bike" setting - as it is a lot of menu screens to go through, or (even better) a start-up option to display this screen so you can choose or confirm each time...

I use a 705 with two bikes and never mess with the settings on the device. All seems to work fine.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.
