Just got a new bike and my mate says to get rid of the Dork Disc
Is this uncool ?
Is it safe without it?
Can I break it off withought buying special tools?

Actually, I'd suggest leaving it on. I've always recommended taking it off, viewing it as needless gizmo, but reports here of derailleurs "mysteriously" going into wheels are common enough to change my mind. If your derailleur limits are set correctly, and the mech or its hanger have not been bent, you're fine without it. But if you don't know quite how to check limit screws, and there's any possibility that the mech may have been dinked inward (it may only clear the spokes by a few mm), you should probably retain the disc. There's no functional cost, and it weighs nothing.
Certainly uncool though, if you care. Anyway: which bike?0 -
Took mine off my mountain bike and now in 1st gear you can hear the chain catching the spokes.
Leave it on wish I had very tempted to buy a new one.0 -
Leave it on if you are absolutely clueless as to how to adjust a rear mech.
When you have picked up that skill, then it become totally redundant and on a par with bike shop supplied plastic pedals with orange reflectors on.0 -
