Making my lock spongey?

After my last bike was stolen, I have bitten the bullet and gone for the kryptonite M18 D lock.
My only concern is that it might rub on the frame of my new steed, so I was thinking of getting some foam to put round it.
I know this sounds like overkill, but I bought this bike 2nd hand, and it is absolutely immaculate. There is literally not a scuff on any part of it, except a TINY mark where the brake cables have rubbed. Apparently this thing is 10 years old, but it looks factory fresh to me.
Plus it is my only bike so will be for commuting and everything else. If I am pottering around, perhaps I'll take the crappy MTB.
Anyway. what do you reckon would be good? I was thinking some of the copper pipe insulating foam, then wrapping some tights or something around the frame to stop it rubbing on the bikerack.
Perhaps it is overkill, but I don't even feel comfortable using this as my C2W, even though it was only 250!

Do you have a rear luggage rack. I stash my luck under a bungie chord on top of the rack.0

Its for when I lock my bike up. At the moment I carry everything in a backpack, but im worried about the lock rubbing on the frame when it is secured, if someone takes the other side of the rack and doesn't take as much care as me.
As for a luggage rack, no.
(I will update my sig when I get some photos)0 -
do you lock it in the same place?
If so can you not leave the lock behind?Racing is life - everything else is just waiting0 -
I use an old innertube for this.0

Or use clear helicopter tape round the bit of the frame you lock ?0

To clear it up
Its for when the bike is locked up.
The lock itself is the m18, so the less I carry that paperweight around, the better. However, if I do have to transport it, when I cycle around I chuck it in my backpack.
Old innertube is a good idea, but will the rubber rub off on the frame?
I like the look of the helicopter tape, but if the lock moves (someone moves my bike to lock theirs up) then the tape may not be covering it - hence covering the lock.
Might go to a hardware store for this one.
p.s one photo of bike is here:

Not sure if its a good deal, but carbon forks, full ultegra with durace rear cassette and given the condition of it, surely it cant be that bad.0 -
Get some cheap handlebar tape and wrap the lock in it. You can even coordinate it with your bike! As Charlie Sheen would say................WINNING!0
