Specialized Helmet Accident Replacement Scheme

They told me if I sent my Echelon back (which cost £50) along with a £60 payment, that they'd send me a new helmet (a "2D helmet", whatever that is).

My Echelon was unmarked, but needed replacing after I was knocked off and it hit the tarmac, so better to be safe than sorry.

In the end I negotiated for them to send me an S-works lid, as I was about to buy one anyway, before the accident, and so works out very cost-effective for me.

On reflection, sending £60 for a new helmet isn't much of a good deal for the customer really - I'd be better to just buy it from Evans and keep the old helmet "just in case" or for parts etc.

    2D is the S-works, isn't it? :-/

FWIW, the S-works is £58 at trade price.
  • Well it is because your getting a top flight lid for £60.

The moral of the story? Buy broken Specialized helmets off of E-bay and buy an S-works for £60. :?

So the 2D is the same as the S-works?

Because they offered the 2D and I didnt know what this was, so I asked for the S-works one which I was going to buy anyway, and they made out like it was a big deal "upgrading" me from the 2D to the S-works and they'd done me a huge favour, even saying he hoped it would go through accounts!

    Have I been had??

Ahh, well it was the "lower" of the two that I asked for (presume the 2D), unless there's confusion and they're sending me the Previal, but I doubt that!

    D'oh!!

You're still getting a £130 helmet for £60. Not much to be disappointed about there!

And the old helmet has pretty much zero value "just in case" or for parts so all that going to Evans would have done is made you another £70 out of pocket.

Oh yes, I quite agree - just that initially they offered to swap it for £60 for a new Echelon, which seemed daft as you can buy a new Echelon for £40-50. I thought I had driven a hard bargain to get the S-works!

Good of them to do it.

Having said that, my Specialized bike still makes noise, and is now just over 4 months old has had 6 different trips to the mechanics and they still cant tell me what the problem is or how to fix it, so I think it's the least I deserve. It's unrideable and I am close to just buying a new bike and giving up on the £1k I sunk into my Secteur.
  • You can get the prevail for an extra £30 but its bulkier than the 2D, i opted for the 2D when i totalled mine, A good helmet with plenty of ventilation and extremely light.

Arrived today - it was sent out the day they received mine, so excellent service all around!

It's the "2D" one afterall, but it's very light and looks great - no more mushroom!

Also, I'd been sold a "large" by my LBS, when I am actually a "medium" so it fits far better.

Shame it doesn't have the "dial" tightening system of the Echelon - I liked that, but the "slider" system on the S-Works seems to work well.

Whats the noise? I have an 2010 allez elite that intermittently rattles as I ride. Again, mechanics can't find the problem! Sounds like marbles in the bottom bracket falling about!
  • I had that in my old Cannondale. Metal shavings trapped inside the tubes, mud ,whatever it is - it's really offputting. Take your bike back if it's never been right! And take the bb out and regrease.
