Add me to the club

Add me to the "neck of femur club". Will try to do a better write-up at some point but basically washed out on a pretty harmless stretch trying to undertake some guys on a bend. Wheels disappeared from under me and I came down hard on my hip. Not the first time I have fallen like that but this was different, as evidenced by the x-ray.
Anyway, three screws and an inconvenient stay in hospital later, now I am on crutches, zero weight on the leg and going through pretty much the same rigmarole as so many people on this thread.
Physio has said "in 3 months you'll forget you had an operation" but I am not going to take that for granted, I know the possible complications and the need for exercise and am also not looking forward to having to go through it all again when they take the screws out (I hope recovery is quicker after that!!).
The main problem, as with many here, is not so much the hip but the swelling in the thigh stopping me bending my leg more than 30 degrees. Trying to do the exercises and hopefully recover enough for a pretty normal, if perhaps slower, and possibly indoor start to winter base-training in around October. Maybe I am hoping too much since I can't walk right now!

You missed the thread...
It took me jsut over two years to get cycling again, but I just romped up most of the HCs on this year's tour. Keep the pecker up, you'll be fine.
Good luck!0 -
Yeah, I see the thread has kind of run and run! New club members "joining" all the time. It is very useful to read other people's experiences, though I haven't managed to get through it all yet.
All I can say is I am glad it happened to me at 38 not at 58, where I would have a lot more trouble...0
