Halcyon Calgary for commuting

My local bike shop has this bike for £250 and I'm looking to pick up something mainly for commuting/cycling around town etc but with scope to go on longer rides at the weekend. I'm a bit of a bike newbie and wondered if anyone could offer up any advice/thoughts?

I've seen the Carrera Subway 2 on offer in Halfords recently (£279) and have read some pretty decent reviews but can't seem to find anything on the Halcyon (they look to be a relatively new brand). For the commute, which one looks to offer the best bang-for-buck?
