I'm doing a PhD in Cyco-Sociology at the Central University of North Tyneside and have, for some months, been surveying and collating data to identify the typical user of the road forum on Bike Radar. Here he is:-

Name: Dave
Age: 36
Profession: IT Project Manager
Lives: Barratt Home, suburbs of small city
Marital Status: Married to Karen (34, Accounts assistant)
Children: 2; Connor and Freya
Drives: BMW X5 -" it's not a status symbol, it's actually very practical"
Leisure pursuits: Cycling, Golf, DIY
Watching Sports: Rugby
Rides: Specialized Allez, Trek Madone
Cycling habits: Sunday rider, done a couple sportives with mate 'Fat Alan', considering a race someday.
Style: Casual - 'Bench' or 'Superdry' t-shirt, 3/4 shorts, flip flops or white slip on trainers
Body Art: "Celtic" tattoo on upper right arm - "crazy 35th birthday present"
Music: Foo Fighters to let hair down after a day in the office, Coldplay or Faithless when 'chilling'
TV: Top Gear, Cash in the Attic, Cops with Cameras
Hair: receding at temples, spiked with gel all over at weekends, more conservative when in office

Drinks: Becks, Rose Wine when with the wife.

Not these days. To be convincing you do need to spell the name of your subject incorrectly!

    I'm older than average

Managed to get the sport I watch right and I do own a Super Dry t-shirt. Other than that and the obvious hobby I'm far from average. Wouldn't mind the X5 though!

Sounds like my idea of a total Central University of North Tyneside. Seriously.

Does Dave wear a helmet? Is he a Shimano or Campag man? How often does he blame Wiggle when things don't go his way?

    We demand answers...

You've not found much, for starters you don't even know the average speed of his rides!

That'll be half of what he actually claims. Surprised research didn't pick up that he reads the Guardian and another hobby is navel gazing. Political allegiance definitely liberal after a brief flirtation with New Labour in the late 90s.

No No No! He's a Toryboy after his last appraisal told him he had 'management potential' but didn't give him a pay rise. So he now reads the Torygraph, but on line as it's cheaper (no payrise).

His speeds are measured in kilometers on the bike but translated as mph when boring workmates. Karen is still a looker, if you don't look too closely and is having a fling with Jason the Accounts Manager. She has a wide circle of girl friends and Dave does a lot of babysitting Connor and Freya.
The older I get the faster I was
