How to re-tape bars?

Right I've sort of done this before when I was doing work experience in a bike shop but I can't really remember what I used to stick the tape to the bars.... Do you just use double sided tape or something? or do you even need anything?

Some tape is self adhesive, some not like the Bontrager tape on my bikes. It is held in place with tension and insulation tape at the centre of the bars. Start at the end of the bars and work towards the stem.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I did this myself in less than half an hour, if I can do it, anyone can !

I used Specialized tape that wasn't sticky, just flat on the side that goes against the bars and raised / padded on the other.

I peeled back the rubber hoods
I removed the old tape and gave the 'bars a wipe over.
Then stuck the little extra bit around the back of the brifter
Then unrolled and re-rolled the tape (for the first 'bar) the other way round (so flat side going on to the bars was on the outside of the roll)
Then wrapped the tape, starting at the end with about 2cm overlap over the end of the bar, wrapping from the inside towards the outside with about a 3-5mm overlap between turns
When I got to the brifter, I wrapped over the top, back down and round the bottom front side and then back up before carrying on round the top of the bars. This bit was a bit fiddly.
Then when I was about 5cm away from the stem I cut an angle out of the end to make it in line and stuck it down with electrical tape and then some fabric tape over the top. The small piece of tape provided in the box was nowhere near enough tape, nor was it sticky enough to hold.
Then push the hood back in to place
Then repeat for the other side!

    Cheers,
    Matt
