You'll hate the Dart more on the cube lol! Elixir 3 are amazingly powerful.0

Looks good for the money, but always a risk 2nd hand unless you can see it first.0

That Cube GT ad looks very suspicious to me"it's like a gift, you know? It's like I can't control it"0

Went to see and try the 8.1
God i hate it.. LOL...
Not a nice bike at all.Salsa Spearfish 29er

Why did you hate it?
and you'll never win that cube for £550...0 -
Agreed, he's got 2 people viewing at £650 tonight/tomorrow. So unless i throw a pile more, i won't be getting it.
So the top CUBE is winning at the moment, partly because it's a decent price and partly because it's 5 mins from work
The 8.1. Well... it felt... CHEAP... felt like an Apollo really... As stated i HATE Avids, the avids felt very Avid like.... long travel and then TONNES of bite but 0% feel from them... just what i hate in brakes.. But overall it just felt a bit cheap and cheerful... So not for me.Salsa Spearfish 29er

Really? A friend of mine has last year's rockrider 8.1, it's a quality bit of kit, especially compared to that first cube you posted... I don't see what looks/feels cheap about it. Elixirs are really good too, maybe they just needed bleeding.0

It is the best 500 quid bike you can get for new, no contest. Great fork, Deore/X7 mix. It is better than some bikes that cost twice the price. Pretty light too, and decent wheels.0

Whilst you may well be 100% correct fella when it comes to Spec... that doesn't necessarily mean it's 'good' or 'right'.
MTB's are all about "Hmmmm " factor for me... This felt like a Skoda Octavia... lovely car, lovely spec... but DAMN, i'd rather have an Audi that wasn't quite as well specc'd.
It can be appearance, feel, perception etc... but for me.. the Rockrider isn't an option...
That's without going into the 10 minute wait time before getting seen to by the ONLY member of staff on bikes.Salsa Spearfish 29er

The last one with a slightly different spec won many a test ;-)
But in the end is down to you, but I'd put budget Cubes in the same boat as Skoda lol, the frames on the cheaper ones are heavy and forks usually poor. No way would I pay that much for the Attention. Plus as above 2nd hand, difficult to try anyway.
I'd take a look at the Cannondale SL4:

Good mix of parts, classy frame and good fork too. Again is a problem of seeing it in the flesh, but has got good reviews again.0 -
In what way did it feel cheap? You still haven't given a reason... that cube is rubbish compared to the rockrider, it just looks pretty0

I guess 'flimsy' is the word, although a lot of that could be down to the fact the Meta55 is a bit of a burly beast.
I WANT to love it... as stated, it's the best on the market for the budget... but i just ... don't... LOL.Salsa Spearfish 29er
