Does anyone have the above wheelset?

My rear hub makes a very odd 'locust like' sound when freewheeling, is this normal. It's on a 1 month old bike so its hard to believe it needs a service already.

Are these hubs easy to service, I've read that they are tool free?

what you mean the ratchet system working?

Yes. It sounds like half of the pulls 'click' and the other half 'click' less. Is this making sense?

When I spin the wheel its click noise varies in loudness.

    Any ideas?

Fair enough. They seem to work fine, they just sound.... broken.

Do you have any thoughts about the merits of the Star-Ratchet system compared to others?

My DT Swiss 240s hubs do the same, sounds high & low pitch, not constant. I have 2 sets & they both do it so yes it's normal.
I personally really like the ratchet system, certainly looks better/stronger inside compared to a normal pawl system as all 18 ratchet bits (or 36 if you get the upgrade like me) engage at once. I also like the almost instant 10 degree engagement of the upgraded 36 point ratchet.
They are tool free to a point, the freehub comes off with a tug but the bearings need pressing in/out with a special tool. Take the rear wheel off, grab the cassette & pull if you want to look inside them.

Thanks Salsa, a high and low pitch is exactly right. It's weird.

I have no idea how many 'ratchet bits' are on mine, 18 or 36. Do I find out by pulling the freehub off? does it make that much difference?

My wheels have also got blue rim tape on, does that mean I'm good to go tubeless?
(I've also got ZTR arch wheels and they have a screw in valve adaptor, will this work on the DT wheels?)

Sorry about all the questions, the information on thems very scarce...
