Was the first G Obree sportive today down in Ayrshire.

Really good. Very well organised and marshalled.

Lovely course (the 65 miler which was actually 69!).

Defo be back next year.

and the 45 miles were 48 but who's counting. Good course well marshalled and friendly. But way overpriced at £35. Before everyone starts shouting I understand the need to pay police buy the bananas and supply bottles of water.

It was great. And what a credit to Graham Obree and Yvonne McGregor who took time to speak to just about everyone who entered. Obree cycled back and forward over the course to speak to riders. He must have cycled umpteen circuits of the course.I'll be there next year too. There aren't enough events of this kind in this part of the world.

Excellent well organised event. The roads were so quiet I sometimes forgot to stay left. I wasn't aware of it until last week so not sure if that was poor marketing or it passed me by but whatever, very glad i made it. The Nick o the Balloch is a great climb and was hard as hell into the wind and rain on Sunday. Chapeau Graeme for, I assume, persuading the council to re-surface the roads, it made for some awesome descents. That alone was worth £35.

I was hemming and hawing about Obree's sportive. It's in my stomping ground, so it would've been good to ride and meet the man himself, but I decided to do the Galloway reCycle sportive around Kirkcudbright instead. As everyone enjoyed themselves though, I might do Obree's one next year.

The 2012 Graeme Obree Sportive was today.

2 route options of 48 or 68 miles. The 68 mile course had 1349m of climbing.

I was joined by a couple of friends who are new to sportives, which meant taking things easy and enjoyable. It was getting the chance to ride with The Flying Scot himself that made them do this event.

Here's my strava of our ride - http://app.strava.com/rides/15302029

Excellent traffic free route over superb undulating countryside, excellent signage and marshalling throughout including traffic police stopping oncoming/crossing vehicles whilst we were at junctions with A roads, good food stop and friendly atmosphere. Best of all, if you were in the right places at the right times you got the services of an excellent domestique.

Disagree with previous poster who said that it was not good value for money.

Best of all... I got a new record speed on Strava. ;-)

Great day at the 2012 Graeme Obree Sportive. Some stiff climbing in places but great camaraderie along the way. Great marshals and motorbike support. One stopped to help me fix my puncture.Graeme as ever was a star. Chatted to everyone and seemed to appreciate the fact that so many had turned out. I think it was great value for money and I'm looking forward to next year.
