Red Rubber collar on Reba fork - what is it?

Just taken delivery of my Cube Ltd Team and have a couple of queires on the reba RL forks that someone here may be able to answer before I go and give the shop a call.
On the right hand fork there is a red rubber collar that just slides up and down the fork, Is this just a hangover from packaging or is it supposed to do something?
Also, using the remote lockout lever on the bars turns the lockout dial on the fork but doesnt actually lock the fork out thus providing no lockout. I'm assuming that the cable may just need adjusting to provide the dial to rotate further.
Other than that the bike is very good.so far but have only ridden it for 5 miles so far.

its a travel indicator. just tells you at the end of the ride what your maximum amount was (assuming you slide it down to the bottom at the begining of the ride). It also helps with setting up the sag as well.0

Ahhhhhhh I see. That's a good idea. Thanks very much for the enlightenment.0

also the lockout won't totally lock the fork out, it should be stiffer and small amount of travel should be present, this is normal.0

Adjust your floodgate! More closed it is the less movement you get in lockout. Have a play - they are internal and external so sometime you need a 2.5 mm allen to change.0

Lol OK so the lockout is not a lockout but a "stiffener" I did notice it made it stiffer so in that case I am now happy that it's all as it is supposed to be. Thanks for your help.0

Made me chuckle a bit. Use it to help set up the sag on your new Mtb, you should have had a rock shox manual with the bike....

The user manual for the forks is somewhat lacking in usefulness!!! out of the 74 pages that it consists of, 8 of them are in English, 3 of those are safety warnings and warranty info, the other 3 talk about installing a maxle and the remaining 2 pages go into detail about crowns.
Sadly there is no mention of anything useful like pumping air into them, the rebound speed adjustment etc.
Anyway the web is a huge place and Google is my friend so i'm off to find a PDF version of the manual now.
Just got back from a 30mile run out on it and am throughly impressed by Cube at the moment. I may have to get a shorter stem though as my shoulders ache like hell now. It didn't happen with my Spesh so it's gotta be posture related rather than weakness in my shoulders.0 -
your fist port of call should be the FAQs."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I am glad somebody else had the same thought about the Reba manual you get with the bike. I was disappointed is was not suitable for good bathroom reading material.
Try moving the saddle forwards a touch, I found it helped me, as those stems are indeed quite long. Enjoy the ride.0 -
Yeah I moved the seat in and am also going to change the stem for a shorter one. No rush now though as I came off the bike at Woburn yesterday and broke my wrist so i'm out of action for a while  really gutted as the bike was a pleasure to ride and I was really enjoying it.
During the crash all of the air in the top chamber of the forks disappeared and there was only about 20mm of the fork strut showing. Have released the air from the lower chamber and pumped them both up again now. Will get somone to give it a ride for me and check that they are not damaged.0 -
it matters which chamber you put air in first btw.... and if you put too much in the lower chamber it sucks the fork down.0

Another useful nugget of info, thank you :-)
That is the type of thing the useless manual should have contained. Anything else I need to know? Excluding any comments about falling off and not breaking bones please :-)0 -
Wouldnt say it was that useful. Top up your positive after that, quuck pump and youre equalised0

Still stays sucked down depending on how much pressure you put in there . Also bear in mind it's obvious it's his first pair of air forks by the sound of it.0 -
Yes Ricardo, spot on.... as noted this is my first pair of air forks so any nuggets of info are very much appreciated. My only experience of front suspension of any form was with the Suntour forks on my 2010 Hardrock sport disc. Hopefully once I get a little more experienced with these ones I will one day be able to offer others the benefit of my knowledge.0

There is a guide in the FAQ.0
