Shimano chain removal advice needed

Got a Shimano XT 9 speed chain which i'd like to remove to clean.

Can i just push the pin out enough to separate chain and then retighten or do i need a replacement pin?

    either a new pin or a quick link. do not re use the pin you push out.

    They should work fine, so long as they're made for 9 speed chains.
    '09 Enigma Eclipse with SRAM.
    '10 Tifosi CK7 Audax Classic with assorted bits for the wet weather
    '08 Boardman Hybrid Comp for the very wet weather.
