High Roller brain fart

Hi all,

I'm primarily an xc hardtail rider but am enjoying such delights as the the freeride area at the top of twrch at cwmcarn and some of the bomb holes around my local area.

I'm pretty set on getting some high rollers to replace my existing (and knackered) mountain kings, but am unsure of which type to go for.

It's a toss up between the 2.1 62a eXCeptions and the 2.35 60a single ply. The eXCeptions are much lighter but am concerned that they may not withstand much punishment, but I also want to be able to ascend without killing myself. Will 2.35's be ok?

Cheers!

Don't forks specify a max tyre size, have you checked yours?

How about a 2.1 rear and a 2.35 front? You should have more than enough clearance and is a great compromise between fast rolling and grip.

Got a Reba up front which has a max of 2.4 i believe... could be cutting it fine though i suppose...

I like the idea of running a 2.1 rear, 2.35 front... Do you know if the eXCeption is tough enough?

    Cheers

Have you thought of going for a 42a front (for the grip) and the 60a for the rear

If you are mainly riding XC then a 2.1 will be fine, if you are riding things that are a little tougher have a play with your tyre pressure. You might want to look at supertacky(42a) but I would not be keen on using this for XC. Go for the 2.1/2.3 combo, should suit you perfectly! Even if you did go wider on the back and you are riding harder your rims can only take what they are worth at the end of the day...

42a 2.35 front, 60a 2.35 rear maxiss tyres are under sized so a 2.1 is tiny and awful.

I have 2.1's on my HT, 2.35 on my FS. They are like chalk and cheese. They are a different shape, not just size. The 2.1 are much more rounded and VERY skinny. They are fine for road/dry hardpack but I hate them on anything technical. The 2.35's however are fab in nearly every condition (except deep mud)

I'm actually swapping my 2.1's as soon as i can as I just don't get on with them
