Help with frame size

I had a bike fit about 3 years ago and it came out as 56 however I found the reach a bit too far and changed it for a 54cm.
Just had another fit for a new bike and they say I am a 56
My inseam is 30" and I am 5' 9" but I have a longer torso and longer arms, so they said the reach would be better on a 56. However surely this would affect my stand over size.
So unsure about what size to get?
If I change the stem does it really matter if it's a 56 or 54? One benefit I guess is that a 56 will give me a higher head tube and therefore a more relaxed position which is what I am looking for!
Any advise appreciated

I'd be suprsed if you were a 56.
I'm 5'11" and 33" and I'm 56-58 (not being very flexible I think 56 is better for me, but I asked the same question here earlier today)0 -
I'm 5 ft 9 with only a 29 in seam, but have a longish reach. I ride a 54 size and it's fine, although I could probably squeeze another 10 mm out of a stem. It's not so much the size that is important but the effective length of the top tube as that will largely dictate how stretched out you will be.
You might be okay with a 56 on some makes of bike but you really need a decent test ride to check your lower back, neck and shoulders can cope. Generally it is recommended to go with a smaller frame with a longer stem as you'll be able to handle it so much better.Specialized Venge S Works

If the fit has said 56 twice then I guess you should be a 56 but if 54 is more comfortable you should go with that.
Don't get too hung up on the size. Go with whatever feels the most comfortable.0 -
I suppose it depends on the geometry of the frame as well. I'm 6'1 with a 33" inside leg and I have a 56 and find it really comfortable. However I ride a Synapse which has a taller head tube for a more upright riding position.
Before I brought this bike a tried a few different models for fit and in some cases the 58s fit much better.Giant Defy Advanced
