8-speed front and rear mech advice,please.

Just bought my first road bike and it only has Sora mechs on it. Wanting to upgrade to 105 or possibly Ultegra but a bit lost on where to find them. Everything seems to be 9 and 10 speed.

Any advice will be appreciated by this novice!!

    Hi, you wont find any 105/ultegra 8 speed as they only came in 9 and latterly 10 speed groupsets. You can now however get sora 9 speed.

    But not to worry as a 105 9 speed rear mech will work with 8 speed shifters. The mechs are brute force constructs and will work with any shifters, the only potential issue being the slightly narrower cages and the wider 8 speed chain. But i had no problems with them.
    I had an 8 speed sora allez and fitted a 105 rear mech and a tiagra front mech and they worked well. It's just that looking for a specific 105 8 speed mech wont get you anywhere.
