Bike Theft - Bait Bikes?

You'd think it'd be relatively straightforwards to catch some of the thieves who see bike theft as a career using something like a bait bike - is it actually allowed or the police to set traps like that ? I get a newsletter from the local neighbourhood watch and about 20-25% of all crimes are regularly bike theft.

Yes the police do use bait bikes.

There are certain things that the Police must do in order for it not to be classed as entrapment

The quickest theft of a bait bike so far in my local area was 11 minutes

The police are also questioning those riding high end bikes if the rider does not look like they can afford the bike
