Evening all,

I am looking at buying my first road bike as I am know getting a bit fitter and want to start entering 80 mile bike rides for charity and my daily 10mile commute.

I have a budget of £350 (maybe £400 at a push) and I am after a good entry level bike. I think buying a second hand bike will get me a bit more bang for my buck but I don't know what I should be looking for in a good road bike.

I have been thinking about this bike http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165710

I can get it down to £270 new with discount.

Any recommendations for me?

Looks ok to me, although as you mention that sort of cash 2nd hand should get you something better - maybe a Specialized Allez or a Giant OCR (which is what my first road bike was).
