My cycling shoes have develped a bit of a nasty pong due to being damp regularly. Can anyone reccommend a good shoe deodoriser???

I cant really put them in the washer due to their rigid soles.

Thanks

A good scrub down with some dish washing soap and water solution, then rinsed clean and left to dry should do the trick. If that fails, pick up some Dr. Scholls shoe deodorizer.

I wondered if I needed an anti-fungal treatment due to the dampness

I usually remove the insoles after a ride and kind of let them air out naturally.

    Works, no pongs so far.

I find it's worse in winter though when you've got overshoes on, especially neoprene types.

I use clothes washing detergent for my climbing shoes, which are a few orders of magnitude worse than any cycling shoe..! Pour straight into the shoe (in the sink) and have at it with a scrubbing brush. The colour of the water is extraordinary. For a while afterwards, I can even tolerate them having been thrown into the back seat of my car without passing out...

Sounds like one for a gynaecologist.

I use a Thermic boot dryer. About £30 - absolutely fantastic at getting rid of smells, drying and warming boots and shoes.

Damn, seems like scrubbing is required. I was hoping to avoid getting my hands dirty!
  • Throw them away, buy a new pair and never ever go out in the rain again without overshoes.

Put them in a plastic bag and then into the freezer - leave them for at least 24hrs - longer if poss and they will lose almost all their pong.

Mine do too. I'm going to replace the insoles, but in the meantime Odor Eaters Sport spray is taking quite a bit of the unpleasant edge off them.

All you need is a sink, some soap and a stiff brush. There are other ways to wash than in the machine...

Give them a wash, scrub the outers and leave them to dry (not in direct sunlight) with the inner soles removed and newspaper stuffed inside. 12 hours later they will be wearable.

As mentioned above, wait until winter when you have overshoes on...
