I'm looking to upgrade my headset to a Hope one. However, it appears that Hope do two headets that look suitable, but I'm not sure what one is the correct one.
I know the Boardman HT has an integrated headset, so which one do I need of these or are both suitable?
Hope Internal Headset - Integral (think this is referred to as semi integrated on CRC)
Hope Intergrated Headset
Any help would be gratefully received.

IF you need an Intergrated then an internal will not work they are not the same."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Right, in that case I need to make sure which one the 2010 Boardman has. From what I can find out it says an FSA Orbit Integrated headset's fitted.

Different manufactures call it different things but my 2010 Boardman HT uses a zero-stack or semi-Integrated headset or internal headset.0

I used this one on my 2010 HT Comp with no dramas:

Now I'm confused. The Spec list says a 'FSA Orbit Integrated Headset'
I've ordered a Hope Integrated Headset, so I'm hoping that will fit!

Fingers crossed

well if you had read the info in the FAQs or Parktools you would know how to identify what you need,
does it have cups?
if yes then it is an internal/zero stack/semi integrated headset. or ZS using the S.H.I.System."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

When's a headset an upgrade?0

@Clunkers1980
Surely when your current one isn't functioning as it was when new, so you buy a new one which is of better quality than the original, thus making it an upgrade.Orange Five 2010

I'd ask why is it not functioning correctly? There must be a reason? It might be as simple as new runners and adjustment. £70 can be more of anupgrade elsewhere?0
-
I thought that most budget/mid range bikes used parts which fit in with the price point. So spending more on an item would make things smoother.
I was imagining that is why you can get headsets costing £20 up to £200 and beyond.
I've figured out mine has got cups in the headtube as well now.Orange Five 2010

I've had the same 20-30 quid headset for six years. Just service. But most carttidge systems you can just get new ones and thiey're good as new.
10 ish quid self servie and you#re done.
60 quid on or extra to an upgrade will prob best best spent?0 -
Ahh well, I'm a marketing sucker then. Just ordered a new Hope headset. Although think it might be the wrong one now!Orange Five 2010

You need to order the Hope "Integral" head set for a 2010 boardman, I have just had one for my Kinesis xc130, they are super slik and much better than the one that comes with the Boardman.

Thanks Catfish, I managed to change the order with The Bike Outlet (great prices on Hope gear). So am expecting delivery soon.
I should have stripped the old headset first before guessing and ordering!
Just have to get the old cups out now then fit the new ones (I'm thinking a trip to the local LBS to press the cups in).Orange Five 2010

I got mine pressed in at lbs, not worth wrecking your head set for a few quid, my lbs charged £12 and that included facing the head tube (new frame).0

WHat's facing the head tube? Will I need to get that done?Orange Five 2010

facing it to ensure a flat sureface, you wont need to get it done no
could you let me know what one you go for? I've got the same frame as you and will probably get this done soon as well... cheers!0 -
Awesome, I was hoping that would be the case.
This is the headset I changed my order to after initially ordering the 'Integrated' one.

The only reason i had to get my head tube faced was because it was a new frame, they tend to be a bit out of round and to small for a press fit, but if you are taking an old head set out then the new one will press in with out facing it.
Good price on the Head set.0 -
