Was just wondering at what point people fit new tyres? Just removed this from one of my bikes and wondered if people would have got more out of it or replaced it as i have

good god man, thats got months left on it!!!

my last nobby nic was down to the bare carcass before it was replaced, and even then i stil reckoned it had a few rides left in it  same deal with a set of michelins i had a few years back, they were shite at first but got better the more they wore down, until they did eventually completely wear out, you could see thread on that one

Pretty much perfect for this time of year. Run 'em for another month or two then take them off and keep them for next 'summer'

I had some old Panaracer semi-slicks that I loved, they stopped making them and I only eventually stopped using them when the sidewalls fell apart...

I'd still use if for hardpack but as soon as the surface becomes soft (loam or mud) I'd be looking for new new rubber sharpish

If you take a 3 inch section of an old tyre with you whenever you ride, you can use that tyre until it fails catastrophically. Patch the tube and insert the old tyre section at the fail site and you'll be fine. I actually used a failed tyre for 6 months with an old tyre section in place, before eventually forking out for a new one. I am a cheapskate...

I only bought new tyres for the front, swaping them to the back when the wear affected breaking performance. I'm a big fan of semi-slicks-on-the-back. Now, with my 29er, I ride in damp loamy conditions and a semislick on the back handles everthing really well - rolls fast breaks fine, can't clog if it finds a little mud. It's going to be useless in the really gloopy stuff though......

thats about the point i change the nobby nics on my 5. On the ascent at golspie, and ascents at learnie red rock i would start losing serious amounts of grip in the wet!

Depends on the tyre. NNs seem really dependant on the block shape to provide decent grip, they go downhill fast once the edges start to wear on the blocks. That one looks like it's a long way past its best.
