I recently sold my Pace 506 FS and my missus has the 405 FS.
Cracking trail bikes, I only sold mine to fund my 29er build. The 506 was a lot of bike & climbed really well. The long travel sucked up the trail and it was a very responsive bike. The only pain in the ass was the amount of water the frame would hold on a wet ride and the original decals on the anno frame were crap.
Ive not really ridden the other halfs 405 but she loves it, says its better than any bike shes had.
PACE frames are good bits of kit, good british trail geometery and cracking climbers.
I just hope if you do buy you never have to deal with pace for any customer service issues. Nuff said :?
I would buy another, you may struggle to find a demo bike. I did.Niner Air 9 Rigid

What was the problem and CS issue?
I am coming from a Specialized and not had to contact the shop regarding issues so dont know the general regarding customer service on MTB's.0 -
Its a long story.
The original decals on the anno frame came off under a garden hose on the 1st wash, they were like the transfers on airfix models. I got it sorted in the end in the form of new thicker plastic decals, it wasnt without a fight and a drive from North Wales to pace in North Yorkshire.
You have these experiences in life, you learn from them but it wouldnt stop me buying another pace frame.Niner Air 9 Rigid

I'm afraid my experience of Pace customer service is similar to Scale20. I was told my Pace forks were not faulty, but had seized rigid because I had not serviced them regularly enough. Despite only being two weeks old and ridden once! I had even purchased them direct from Pace, so they were aware of the date of purchase. I pressed the matter but they were not remotely interested in me as a customer.
It's a shame because the forums are rife with similar stories, and I really like some of their kit. I'd certainly have had a Pace frame at some point without this experience, or reading the horror stories on the net.0
