Regular Servicing - Do you do it?

So do most people actually service their bikes or wait until there is a problem?

For suspension parts FOX recommends servicing every 30 hours or every year. Every year I can just about understand but every 30 hours?????? That seems like madness - or it that really required?

I've always cleaned and repacked my wheel bearings every 6 months or so, although a LBS seemed rather surprised that people actually bought new bearings! Am I wasting my time?

All views welcomed.

Never service my bikes they're not like cars.

Anything that feels weird or unusual while I'm riding is investigated there and then and if necessary, fixed when I get back home.

A bike on the trails is worth two in the shed.

    A service consists of:

    1. Checking something over to look for worn components. Checking things are adjusted correctly.

    2. Replacing anything that is worn out. Adjusting anything that needs adjusting.

You can easily do the inspection part yourself.

I know my bike, so I know when something is amiss. Sometimes, I'll decide that it's fine anyway, other times I will decide to fix or overhaul it ASAP.

I'm starting to think that over-maintaining your bike causes too much wear and tear
