Chainring compatability

I have an XT 10 speed tripple chainset and shall probably be going 2x10 once the X0 chainsets with lower rations come out as I ride a 29er. The combination that would be the same lower gear as mine is the 24/38 but I'm thinking of the 22/36.

I have a spare XTR M960 22T chainring. Could I fit this to my XT 10 speed chainset to see if I like the ratio?

Thanks, I might try it on the upcoming Peaks ride on Saturday. It should make my 2x10 decision easier then as those rides tend to have some very testing climbs (for me at least).

You sure? The width was a bit quirky on M960 rings, although the BCD on the granny was 'standard' 64. You'd have to try it, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work properly. M970 inners definitely won't fit FWIW, they're 2mm wider than XTs.

Yeh, thanks Njee. I should've just taken a closer look to start off with. The spacing is totally different (which I thought might be the case. The XTR ring would sit too far inwards.
