Cadence...horses for courses?

I don't seem to be any good at high cadence however fit I get...it just tires me out and I feel like I am spinning and burning calories without getting anywhere.
Is there a good thread about this somewhere? Should I up my cadence whether I like it or not and all will come good in the end?
