Least worthy TdF winner ever?

Frank and Andy's mum wouldn't even agree with OP“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0

Worthy?
I'm not a fan of Evans didn't like him when he was a mountain biker don't like him now but he did what he had to do to win & Frandy or Bertie couldn't shake him so yes a worthy winner.
And now I'll never be able to say "Evans haha he'll never win the Tour" cos the bugger proved me wrong..0 -
Lets not forget that the Brothers didn't take a pull on the Team TT, Somehow this real gets me to as it shows lack of commitment to their cause.0

You kidding right. Ha. Evans FTMFW bitchesContador is the Greatest0

Most ridiculous thread ever, well certainly over the TdF period. Chapeau Paul! :roll:0

Not at all... it's a forum and this is my opinion. Not trying to get a rise, trying to see what everyone else thinks
I think if that is your conclusion then you've wasted your precious leisure time watching the race.0 -

just hope cav wins todays stage now
+1 Nothing more interesting than watching an attack go in the mountains; complete anti-climax watching said attack being chased down. Whatever, strongest man won, neither Scleck created the gap that they needed for the win so all credit to the kangaroodoudou (L'Equipe's nickname). He also worked very hard to prepare his win, doing a lot of reconnaisance and riding the Dauphiné, which the Schleck bros didn't. There is something of Indurain's later Tour wins in Evans' victory.
(which does not give the Evans fans the right to slag off the other riders either, credit where credit is due or are you all just the slobs who run under the wheels?)0 -
Huh? What? He can't quite hear you over the sound of the winning.0 -
Least worthy winner of the TdF?
No such thing!Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -
We're a bit feisty on this forum - aren't we!
In my mind Evans won it fair and square, the strongest man overall.
Just not that exciting for me!
I'll remember this year for the accidents and Voeckler's performances!0 -
Ridicalous thread. Any cyclist who can ride this race for 3 weeks and not fall over on the last day before getting across the finish line on the Champs Elysee is a flippin good rider. I reckon most who post on here couldn't even complete the flatest stage within the time limit I couldn't .
But Floyd Landis springs to mind .Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......
half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.0 -
riis didnt deserve to win even then i could tell he was a cheat0
-
The only way to be unworthy of winning a TdF is by cheating.
The style of the win can be discussed, but "worthiness" cannot.0 -
I was stood on The Galibier when Evans attacked to get time back on Shleck, and he was doing anything but wheelsucking. He was flying, the effort quite obvious.
He deserves it 100%, he's clean as a whistle, unlike other previous and more spectacular winners.0 -
And it was by being just that, a champion who inspired his troops to a stunning second place in the team time trial, who won an epic stage himself on a rain-soaked Breton hilltop, who rode constantly near the head of the peloton protected by his own red guard, who bravely defended his chances with spectacular rides through the Alps … and who then finished it off with an individual time-trial performance worthy of the greatest Tour champions.
And he has done it in what has been one of the greatest-ever Tours.
From a report on Velonews and saidit better than I ever couldM.Rushton0 -
Utter boll0x. I'm not a fan of Evans because of the tantrums he throws with the press and fans, but he's been great in this tour and I'm glad he won it.
I've accused him of wheel sucking in pervious tours, but this year he appeared to be putting in more effort than most and his efforts to limit the Frandy breakaway were awesome. Funny how Tommy busts his ball$ to hang on and is described as gutsy, Cuddles does the same and he's a wheel sucker.
He limited things in the mountians, destroyed everyone in the TT and took time of Frandy descending because they're a pair of girls. If Frandy had more guts or better legs, he'd have attacked on another stage and got the gap he needed for the TT. Too busy looking over his shoulder, I'm suprised he didn't have a quick peak around in the TT despite being last man out.
Worth winner, well done CadelPlanet X N2A

Really wish Thomas Voeckler had won it for his gutsy riding, or Andy Schleck with that win on the Galibier. I think they were more deserving of the yellow jersey than sucking wheel for 3 weeks.

I think you're 100% wrong on this one. Andy Schleck would have been the least deserving winner. He had one good stage in the entire tour, the rest of it he rode like a complete fanny.
I am pleased for Cadel.0 -

Nope, absolutely not, maybe the most deserving winner of the post 1990 era. I'm an Andy fan and would love to have seen him win, but to describe Evans as least worthy is madness. I know his lack of big attacks is maybe less grand than I'd like, but he's a great winner, and so deserving. Yesterday I was a bit annoyed Schleck had lost it, but 24 hours to reflect has made me feel the love for Cadel
I like (to watch) the climbing and wanted Andy to win for that spectacular effort on the Galibier. A 60K attack is unheard of since Hinault (so I'm told - Floyd who?), but the course was there and every one knew what they had to do. Schleck the younger should have made one of those attacks in the Pyrenees stick, instead of keep sitting up, then after the Galibier he knew the gap was probably not enough and he should have attached on Alpe d'Huez. I feel Andy lost it with too much worrying about Contador and not enough about Evans. Superb to see Cav in green today, a Brit that really dominates at the top level, I hope we'll get to see that continue for many a year yet. Hoogerland was great, Roy fantastic in his ultimately futile breaks, but hey, you have to have some pointless breakaways or it's not a TdF. Both times I saw Bertie, on the AdH and the stage into Gap there was no booing, which is right, I don't think he should have been there, but I'm not sure he deserves the madman about. Anyway that's my thoughts on it, and once again no way is Cadel undeserving.0 -
It would seem the OP has piped down.0

I keep seeing "Evans is clean" presented as fact but how the hell do you know? The "rules" regarding who is cheating and who is not are getting as ridiculous as the clinic over on CN forum where riders are judged on the shape of their jawline.
It may well be that evans is clean but only he knows that. It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.0 -

wot he said!
Finally we have a winner that is clean - I personally cant remember we've hada winner without a cloud hanging over them...dont knock on death\'s door.....
Ring the bell and leg it...that really pi**es him off....0 -
Fantastic tour ,,Cadel proved himself over the 3 weeks attacking in the climbs rode everyone off his wheel ,,went with all the attacks apart from the mechanical and andy solo effort [he did not think he needed to],,,,this is a man who rode from the front and for all there so called better climbing abilities andy and frank could not drop cadel ,,so congrats Cadel your the man ,,,
and then there was Thomas v ,,,,what a ride if he knew he was going to be in contention for a podium from the outset then who knows where he could have finished ,awesome performance and now lets see him come back into the tour as a main contender ,outstanding
Alberto contodor ,,,rode the tour with so much dignity ,briiliant ride on friday towards alp de huez ,,,,and was so gracious in defeat ,no complaints true champion and when he rides next years tour with fresh legs he will be the man to beat [ he was just on a different level in the giro ,maybe the best grand tour performance ive ever seen]
and finally to Andy and Frank ,great riders they both are but unless they get there ITT better i cannot see them winning the tour ,has good as they are in the mountains they cannot drop the main contenders infact they had to chase done cadel a couple of times ,they need to look at the tour overall the descents the medium climbs and the ITT and try and improve ,,,,it also would be nice if they were a bit more gracious in defeat
,they do come across like spoilt brats ,,,,
oh yeah one more thing why didn't andy wait when cadel had is mechanical ,,,,,
well done cav hope you stay at HTC sky will only mess you up with one of there well worked out plans ,,,just ride fast after renshaw and then go past him and win0 -

The only thing to discuss is how stupid that post is.
Given that Evans was the best all round rider, matched the climbers on the climbs, TT'd better than any other contender, and was the oldest winner for half a century, I'd say that makes him pretty deserving.
And the original post a load of old cock0 -
Cadel Evans is hereby awarded the Bike Radar Forum Seal of Approval.

Here's what Landis wrote last year about Rihs when Landis explained his doping plans to Rihs -
"One thing of great significance is that I sat down with Andy Rihs and explained to him what was done in the past and what was the risk I would be taking and ask for his permission which he granted in the form of funds to complete the operation described."
Other members of the BMC set-up are also linked with doping- before the Tour, team physio Sven Schoutteten was arrested on suspicion of dealing dope, and team manager Jim Ochowitz was adviser to Rihs earlier team, Phonak, when Landis was with them. According to Landis, Ochowitz knew of, and agreed with, Landis' doping plans.
Evans was asked today whether he felt there had been any change of behaviour in the peloton about doping and he avoided properly answering the question. His answers were
"I'm not in a position to comment. Sorry"
and
"The best which I can do is to give a good example. If anyone has another opinion (of how to set about things), that's his complete right".0 -
Paul showing how little he actually grasps about bike racing yet again.
For my money Garin was the least worthy. He took a train.Scottish and British...and a bit French0 -

“Cadel Evans deserves the Tour and is a worthy winner. His style of riding isn’t spectacular, but he has demonstrated that he’s very strong, has fought for stages, today he did a great time trial and he’s a fair winner,” said Contador.Contador is the Greatest0
