I have decided to get into road cycling have a budget of £1000, i have been to many shops in plymouth, have seen an array of bikes, even more confused now than when i started. Can anyone give me advice as to what to look for. I am 6ft 2" with 36 inside leg an 40. I am leaning more to the Wilier escape Xenon. There is a shop built bike with a kenisis T2 frame and campo gear set going for £999, being sold as a winter bike it is a good looking bike but i just don't know.
Can anyone give me some advice please?

Dunno about the kinesis but the £999 i spent on my cannondale synapse has been the best money ive spent in ages. Love the bike. Best advice i can give is go test ride as many as you can.

Go and speak to Rob at Certini.

They have a number of Cannondale and Specialized test bikes + other stuff and the customer service is excellent (well Rob does own the place).

He will look at what you want the bike for and recommend accordingly

    Just came across this: http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36891

I'd look at a second hand bike. Or push your budget a bit and get a Cannondale CAAD10

Ride as many as you can, and make your choice on what feels right to you. Don't get hung up on specs, but go with what you like and what feels right.

(You can see what I ended up with in my signature. It's not an original choice, it seems!)

By all means try and test ride all sorts of brands.... if you have the time..
    but
if you do go for , lets say, a CAAD10, and after a year you dont get on with it.... (impossible of course), you will have 2nd buyers biting your hand off to buy it off you... can you say the same for other makes.....? I dont think so.
  • Focus Cayo from Wiggle - use the code TOUR20 and get 20% discount.

I had mine delivered last week and would highly recommend.

I wouldn't be too bothered about pushing your budget to something like the CAAD10 or Focus Cayo if it's not possible for you to try them before buying. Don't get me wrong, they are both great bikes but if you don't know what size you are after or what groupset you prefer then it's better to go to as many LBSs as possible and try as many bikes as you can within the budget.

A bike that fits well is more important than 105 over Tiagra or carbon over aluminium in my opinion.
