Deore Disc Brakes : lever pulling back to bar?

I've recently had a new set of Deore hydraulic disc brakes fitted to my son's bike. I haven't had chance to go and look at them yet, but he tells me that now the pads have bedded in, the lever is pulling right back to the bar before the brakes bite.

Is there an adjustment that can be made, or is it more likely that a brake bleed is required?

Thanks for any advice.
Cheers,
Phil, in Inverurie

Sounds like they need a bleed but if they're relatively new I'd take them back to the shop.

are the pistons being moved? and they are just having to move a long way as they have not settled in yet?

A bleed is the LAST thing to do.

Might be a silly idea, but he hasn't by any chance turned the reach adjuster too far has he?
