Some feedback on my first road ride

So after 3 years of mountain biking I took the plunge and purchased my first road bike, something I've been looking into and wanting for years now. I purchased a Focus Cayo 150 Ltd from Wiggle at the discounted price of £880 (bargain) and went out for my first ride last night so thought I'd give you all some feedback from a road newb.
I live in the centre of Manchester and decided to head out east towards the moores to find some country roads. Obviously I'm going to encounter some busy main roads living in the city centre but I soon found myself struggling in busy rush hour traffic on a main dual carriage way being chocked to death with exhaust fumes and being pushed to the curb by dick head drivers, one of which I had to put my hand on his bonnet to stop me falling over haha I found this quite funny.
Anyway after I got through the traffic and onto the country roads things got a lot better and I was buzzing as I raced down hills keeping with cars at speeds of 30+. I attacked hills and found myself some 13 miles out of the centre when I checked my iPhone app which had been running in my pocket. I got a bit lost in the country and was happy just riding around not really knowing where I was going. On the way home I hit some lovely smooth roads and really put some power down. What I love about the road bike compared to my mountain bike is the difference in speed. I was beating cars of the lights and flying down main roads at the same sort of speeds. I ended up doing just short of 30 miles and hit a top speed of 40mph which was such an adrenaline rush. I also loved the nod of appreciation of got from other road bikers I encountered on my travels.
Anyway just thought I'd let you all know what it was like to get out on a roadi for the first time. I just need to drop my mountain bike helmet for something more streamline and also get some glasses as I found myself in floods of tears on the decents and I will be a complete roadi basher
I cant wait for the weekend now to do more miles and explore some new roads.

Good to see you enjoyed it.. The speed gets addictive!
But yes, get yourself a set of riding glasses. I went out one time without them, and got a massive fly in my eye which i couldn't get out. was 15 miles out still, so i had to ride the distance home with a fly in my eye.. Nothing worse than flys and grit in the eyes.
You've jumped just at the right time, hopefully there's nothing but sun for the next 2 months.0 -

glasses are even more important on the mtb to stop the mud, grit, flies, midges, twigs and thorns, from taking your eye out.
How the hell have you managed until now?
Oh, and don't drop the mtb helmet, or shoes, or mud. By all means, enjoy the difference, but be proud of your roots!--
