Massive noise on the way in this morning when giving it some up hill. Bike jumped out of big ring and wouldn't go back in. Big crack around BB.

Time for a new bike, also time to find out how good specialized lifetime warranty is.

Photos to follow.

That's a complete pain. Just after you get it all going again, you must be due some good luck about now. Get yourself a road bike and get the frame replaced under warranty.

So, what's the budget for the road bike and the SCR collective will help you decide.

Unless someone has a better idea. I'm going to get a £1000 C2W voucher from work, get a Genesis Equalibrium 20 and put my new wheels on it, and maybe a different rear cassette. However this will take a few weeks, so right now I want to find a cheap frame and swap all the stuff over.

    Any suggestions?

You can use my spare bike while you wait if you wish. The original Lime green Peugeot 'flyingbogey'. Put together by someone who knew what they were doing (Not me), Ultegra bits and tri bars no less. I'm only down the road from you. Let me know.

If you have the original invoice for the bike and you are the original owner then the Specialized lifetime warranty is fine. They will swap the frame for you but you'll have to strip it and provide new parts if the old don't fit (BB, seat post).

Why buy a whole bike? Why not just buy a frameset instead and transfer all your components over? Use the £1000 CW voucher for a frameset and you'll get a fantastic bike, something that you can upgrade the components on in the knowledge that the frame will support them.

I wonder if you can get a Ti frame and decent forks for £1k?

Enigma do a Ti frame for £999 I think. Eclipse I think.

    EDIT: No fork though

I don't have it. @rse! However specialised have said all I need is letter or note from Evans saying I brouhg it there and job done. Next problem is 2011 frame has different hubs width, so my nice wheels won't fit. Arrgghhhh. Still I'll go into evans and see what they say.

OK it's simple really current bike is flat bar. So I'd also need bars and shifters and probably a few other bits too. Plus I've got V-Brakes so new frame needs to have pivots or I'm replacing them too. So a complete bike on C2W works out cheaper. I think? Also C2W is officailly for complete bikes only.

No expert but it doesn't rust and from what I've read they last decades.

    Isn't an Equilibrium > £1,000
  • Don't think you are permitted to buy just frames or parts through C2W unfortunately.
Nobody told me we had a communication problem
  • I've got a Ti bike for best. Fantastic ride and won't rust. Too early to say how well it stands up to the tough life of a commuter.

The 20 is a bit over, but Evans has appeared to of stopped doing it.
The 10 is under £899 and I could get it priced match down to £800 here http://www.tweekscycles.com/Product.do? ... aign=Cycle

Difference is 105 vs Tiagra drive chain and the wheels. As I would be using my own wheels, only difference is the drive chain.

    Decsion, Decsions.

As I need to replace my commuting bike with something else this could be it, and then next year a nice ti framed racer.....

Don't know what steel the Equilibrium is but aren't some bikesmade of stainless variants that don't rust? Ti is nice, I was passed by a bloke on a gorgeous Ti bike in the park last week. Big fella, legs like tree trunks that left me for dead up a hill.

Evans will probably be able to find the invoice on their system for you and print a new one off.

I will take your ill fitting wheels off you if you wish.
