click when pedalling hard on downstroke

Hi there,

When I stand up and peddle hard in any gear, I get a clicking sound that's quite loud, usually near the bottom of the downstroke.

I'm quite new to cycling and so was wondering if you have any ideas on what I could try.

It sounds like it's either coming from the rear cassette/gears or the chianring/crank -- I can't tell which.

Thanks,
Rob

    What are you peddling?

Anyway, see if there's any play in the bottom bracket.

I had something similar, it turned out my crank was slightly loose.

headset, seatpost or cassette are usual suspects when going for it.

Is the front mech cable catching on the crank arm?

Thank you for the advice. I forgot to mention that the noise coincided with the chain coming off sometimes when shifting to the larger chainring.

Is it an overshift? i.e chain goes too far and drops off the far side? Need to check the upper limit screw if that's the case.

Thank you so much for all of the tips. After trying the more simple things, I took it to my LBS in the end for a service, explained the issue in detail but it's still doing it. Have lost faith in LBS so I've bought some tools to give the BB and cassette a look.

The bike is a bianch nirone with a shimano sora gear set. It's only a few months old as well.

    Thanks again for the tips!
  • Just to let you know that cleaning and re-greasing the bottom bracket finally got rid of the clicks.
  • Good to hear you got it fixed....any noises when you put pressure down on the cranks are pretty much always loose crank arms or bb tightening or regreasing.

Think my summer bike will need a bit of grease before putting away for the winter
