Hello all,I am looking to buy my first road bike after messing about on an old hybrid for a few years. I had almost decided on the Focus but now I am also considering the Trek. They are around the same price, I would like to build up my millage and take part in a couple of sportives in the future. It's a scary thought paying almost a grand on a bike so I want to get it right.[/quote]

One is just like Lance’s bike, but in aluminum.
The other is one of the best value entry level carbon road bikes available ( except ribble/ planet-x)I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
That does not make my choice much easier lol0

Ridden the focus and work in a trek dealer so can give a fairly balanced view.
I prefer the trek geometry with the 2 series it is the same as most their madones also it is a very good frame and you get a lifetime warranty on it.
The kit is very similar but I found the cayo had a slightly harsher ride.
Someone will probably contradict me so I will just say this is all my opinion and also the trek is being done in a limited edition leopard trek team colours design which looks great but it looks good in red and black too.0 -
Thanks for your views Hutch. Do you or anyone else know the weight of the Trek as I can't seem to find it listed ?0

What size frame?
For a 58 you're looking at 10kg.0 -
I think I am going to be a 52" or a 54" but I am popping in to my LBS to get properly measured. There is another fly in the ointment now as my LBS is suggesting I should perhaps hang on for the 2012 model. Apparentley the wheels are better and the gearing has been improved.0

I'd buy a 2011 at discount now and get some miles in.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
I've a Cayo and love it. Never ridden the Trek but I've found carbon more comfortable (I have a Focus Variado too)ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Well I got sick and tired of trying to make a decision and opted for the bike that first drew me in. Focus Kayo ordered from Wiggle yesterday ! Here's hoping I have made the right decision but I am not going to stress about it too much.0

Hutch, where do you work? Have you got a website?
Thanks!
